Another one in college!

Seth applied, was accepted, and will be registering today for college! He is going to the local community college. It is cheaper to get those core stuff out of the way than at a university. IF he graduates with a 4.0, he will get a free ride to the local university as well! I expect him to try his hardest, but I won't get down on him if he doesn't. He plans on going two days a week so he can still work a good schedule and is planning on full time. I am so proud of him and JM both!

JM and Shelbie are planning a wedding in January 2012. They are trying to find a place to have it and the reception right now. It is so expensive. I keep trying to talk them into something really simple, but you can't tell a girl that I guess. I just don't see the point in spending all that money and going into debt just to say "I do." We had a VERY simple wedding and reception with about 20 people and we are still happily married for over 22 yrs. It is their choice, so whatever. lol

I didn't decorate much for Christmas this year. I put some lights up around the window, I got the snowman that my step-dad made, I have a wreath up, and my Charlie Brown Christmas tree.

That is pretty much it. Oh! I have stockings but haven't put them up. Not sure where to do that yet. Just a simple Christmas. As with everyone, finances are tight. I plan on getting each child one gift and then if I have the money, get them another. Just one step at a time. lol I am sure they will be happy with the one gift as they are not greedy and they know it is tough. I got good children. :-)

She said yes!!!

My son, John, proposed to his girlfriend of 4 years and she said yes! Woo hoo! He went to her father and asked permission first. Her father was pleased and happy to allow him to do so. He took her to Olive Garden for dinner. He asked the waitress to take their picture. While he was moving over to be next to her, he got down on his knee and proposed. I wish I could have seen her face, but I am sure she was thrilled and happy. The waitress got a few pictures for them so I will share them when I get them. We are happy for them!

Congratulations, John and Shelbie!!!

Boy, am I tired!!!

Last  night our church hosted a youth rally. There were about 220 teens plus I don't know how many adults. Our church is small, but we managed. We had a few kinks, such as someone forgot to buy buns and we needed ice and such. It all worked out (Thank you Lord!!!!)! I kind of jumped in and took over the kitchen and food. We got it all set up and I had people in place so when it was time, we had the line flowing and all went well. We had plenty of food and drinks and some left over. It was a really good night. We got home after 11:00 last night and fell asleep about the time our heads hit the pillow.

This morning we got up early and went back to the church for a cleaning day. I had Seth take down all the light covers and I washed them. They were plastic, about 4 feet tall and about 1 1/2 ft wide. I cleaned about 32 of them I think. I then, with my hubby's help, cleaned the kitchen. We scrubbed the cupboards, walls, doors and doorways, and appliances. Kathy cleaned inside the fridge. I am tired and a little sore. I will say the kitchen looks and smells great. I think it turned out great.

Hubby is watching Ohio State play Penn State. I sure hope Ohio State wins. He will be grouchy for the rest of the day if not. lol I think I will make pizza for dinner, if I can find the energy. ;-)

Enjoy your weekend!

The Mad Squirrel

You have to turn the volume up to hear it. This is so funny! Joshua and I were doing school in his room. There is a tree right outside his window. A squirrel sitting on the tree was "yelling" at us. It is so funny! We finally closed the blind and he took off, but was still yelling. We opened the blind back up and he came back to "yell" some more. It was hilarious!!! It was a great laugh for us.

Seth singing and playing piano with Caitlin

You may have to turn the volume up some.

School is Back in Session!

At first when people started talking about school starting, I wasn't ready. I did not want it to start. All the other moms were saying how they couldn't wait (which I do not understand at all), but not me. I decided to wait until after Labor Day to start school. It worked. By then, I was ready to get back into a normal routine. I am not sure Joshua was, but he is doing well. It seems like we have been back at it for a long time, but it has only been a few weeks! lol Wow! He has already had three history tests, two science tests, and one math test. He is reading Moby Dick by Herman Melville and trucking along with his other subjects. I am pleased with his attitude and progress. Science will be a little tougher this year. He is loving history though. He always has. I think math will be a challenge later in the year, but that will be good for him.

We live in an apartment building. Every morning I hear a lady taking her child to school. Every morning he is crying about going and she is dragging him (not literally of course) to school. It is just so sad! How can that child have a good day and learn anything? I am sure as the day goes on, things change and it does get better, but what about the first few hours? They are about worthless I bet. I hope and pray that the mother can get her family into a better routine and the mornings will work out smoother for them. It is just so sad to hear.

JM's college classes are going great! He did have to switch one of his classes because it was going to take up more time than he had. They told him the biology class was going to have about 13 to 14 hours of homework a week! With him working full time and going to school full time, it just wasn't possible. So he was able to get his class changed. The biology will have to wait for another semester or so.
Seth has officially finished high school but we haven't done anything with it. I am hoping to get him started at the community college soon. He is working but it is slow so his is getting one day a week. That isn't enough for someone just out of school. He is looking into getting another job, but keeping the one he has so he can get the perks! We all love the perks he gets from his current job. LOL

I hate grocery shopping!

I hate the whole process of grocery shopping. It is such a chore! I can't just go shop and pick up this and that because I would not get enough and over spend. Too much impulse buying that way. I have to plan the meals. It is mainly dinners but I have to plan for 2 weeks! What stinks is what I am in the mood for now may not be the same thing I am in the mood for later. It is just not fun. Then you have to find cheap stuff to feed a family of five. Things are tight this week. I have $200 to buy enough food for two weeks for 5 people ( that is a total of 210 plates of food). Now, I know $200 seems like a lot, but when you have 3 teenage boys in the house and a hungry hubby... it isn't much at all! Buying fresh fruit and veggies is usually out of the question because it is so expensive most of the time. My boys love Granny Smith apples. When they are on sale I buy them but most of the time they are $1.49 a lb. I have to buy at least 10 apples and they are usually larger... it just adds up quickly! I try to make from scratch as much as I can. It is just all so frustrating! I wish I had someone that would do it for me. Any volunteers?

Back to my list... ugh!

The big 4-0!! Oh no!!

I turned 40 last week. I had dreaded it. It was a huge thing for me  to leave the 30's. I kept asking my hubby (who is 45 btw) if he would still love me when I was old. lol I know silly, right?

The day actually turned out okay. My hubby took the day off and we basically hung out most the day. We did go window shopping. We got Chinese delivered and just chilled the rest of the day. Seth had to work that evening but we weren't doing anything exciting so it didn't matter. JM gave me a deep fryer. When we moved to TX I lost the cord to my deep fryer. I have been baking my french fries, which is better yes, but not taste wise. lol My hubby gave me the new iPhone 4. It is pretty neat. I had the iPhone 3G. I liked it, but this one is better. It is faster and I can take videos on it. Don't know how long of ones but I liked it.  All in all it was a pretty good day. Turning 40 wasn't that bad. lol

Seth saved up for a trip to Ohio. He comes home tomorrow. I have missed him this week. He got to spend a lot of time with Emily, he got to see his grandmothers and a cousin, and our former dog, Ginger so he was happy. He also went to Cedar Point. It rained while he was there, but he still got to ride some rides. He has really had a great time. I am happy he got to go, but I am ready for him to come home.

JM finished his summer college course. He took Economics and he got an "A". He was thrilled. He starts Monday on a full work schedule and a full class load. I hope he can do it. It will be tough for him, that is for sure. He is pretty excited. The only hitch is that there is a mix-up with his financial aid. We are hoping that clears up and all will be fine.

Joshua starts school on the Sept. 8. We are waiting until after Labor Day. Hubby was going to take the week off, but he can't because some another is off that week. Joshua hasn't done too much besides swim and play xbox. He has a lot of friends he talks to while he plays. He can get loud at times. lol

Hubby and Seth along with a friend got tickets to the Dallas Cowboys/Miami Dolphins pre-season game. They are so excited! Hubby and Seth are rooting for the Dolphins, the friend is for the Cowboys. They got them off of ebay so we are hoping they are good. Sometimes you just don't know. I am trying to talk hubby into taking the next day off as he will be so tired, but he hasn't done it yet.

We have been enjoying the pool lately. After hubby gets home from work and after dinner we have been going for about an hour. We have time to talk and relax. It is really nice. If we don't have a child come with us, we get more talk time for us. Sometimes we are by ourselves, other times there are more than enough people. Since public school has started it hasn't been so busy. The weather hasn't been that great here lately.

There is my life update. I am old and that is all. LOL

TGIF!

Woo hoo! It is Friday! I like Fridays. JB's last day of work is today until the 7th June. He is really looking forward to it. I am too. I know he will be home and "in the way" but since we have school done, it won't bother me. The housework will get done and all will be fine. I just hope he can relax and enjoy his vacation. He deserves it.

JM will be going away for the night on Wednesday night. Shelbie graduates high school Wednesday night. We will be stuck at home until he gets home. It isn't a big deal but it will be a bummer to not have a car. We will have to miss church on Wednesday night. That doesn't make me happy as Preacher is starting a new study on the book of Revelation. Having only one car is getting OLD!!! Just cannot afford another car right now. :-(

My books for next year arrived in the mail this past week. Yeah! I am so glad to have all the books for next year bought and I get them pretty cheap. I am  thrilled! I will need to find some books to read for literature but other than that, we are set. I like having everything bought ahead of time. One less thing to worry about.

I was thinking something exciting happened this week, but I guess it didn't. I can't remember it anyway so it must not have been that exciting. lol

Enjoy your holiday weekend.

Prom Pictures!!

JM trying on his tux for me. I wish I could have been there to see them off but it wasn't possible. Isn't he handsome?

JM and Shelbie. They went with a very large group and rented a huge limo. I think they have 12 people in their group or something.

Aren't they sweet? Can't believe my baby is all grown up.

School is out for the summer!!!

Woo hoo! Well, actually Joshua is done for the year. Seth is finishing up his senior year and continuing until he is finished. That will be a few more weeks. So basically I am down to one homeschooling yet. Wow! Time sure does fly, huh? I have 5 more years of homeschooling left. That seems like forever, but I know it will zip by quickly. This is Seth's last week with the book part of driver's ed. He will find out today or tomorrow his schedule for driving.

JM  is going to prom this weekend with Shelbie. He has his tux hanging in my closet. His car still isn't working and we are all beyond frustrated with it. He will take our car and we will have to rent a car. Actually he will rent one for us. If we didn't have to go anywhere, we wouldn't worry about it. Both JB and I are teaching Sunday school this week so we have to go. I will post a prom picture when I get one.

JB is taking his vacation Memorial Day week. He will be off from the Saturday before until the Sunday after. Nine whole days off! We don't have any plans or money to do anything but it will be nice to have him home. After the last few weeks, he is ready for a vacation. The last two weeks he worked 115.75 hours! That is almost 3 weeks crammed into two. I felt so bad for him, but will love the paycheck. Praise the Lord for providing our needs. He knew we would need the money and provided for JB a way to make it.

God is good!

Hey! Remember me?

Oh my! It has been almost 3 months since I have blogged! Sorry about that! Part of the problem was my computer. It was slowly dying and I couldn't get on long enough to do much. My wonderful, sexy husband fixed it for me. He is my hero!!! He gave up his computer so I could have one. Isn't he sweet? If you knew hubby, you would be shocked because he is the computer nut. Of course, he works on a computer all day long so by the time he gets home I think he is sick of computers. He wants something else to stare at besides a 15 or so inch monitor.

Things are going well. JM moved home at the beginning of March. We helped him move and clean. He got all of his deposit back and they were impressed at how well it looked. Yeah! We had to tow his car here and he and dad have been working on it. I will be glad when it is fixed! Having 3 people with jobs and only one car is a little rough. Luckily JM and hubby work at the same company and can carpool there but JM gets off work before hubby. That means he comes home and then 3 hours later I go get hubby right in the middle of when I should be cooking dinner.

Seth got a job at a movie theater. He made employee of the month on his first month there. He got a $25 bonus, a pin to wear on his uniform, and his name on a plaque. We get to go to the movies free!!! I love it! As his immediate family we can go anytime he is working. We just have to let them know an hour in advance. He can also go anytime and take 3 people free. He went to a few movies with his friends. He really enjoys his job and we all love the perks.
School is almost finished for the year! YES!! I am ready for a break but have already started getting things for next year. I will only have Joshua next year. Seth decided to finish up his schooling and will be working through the summer to get it done. He only has Physics and British literature left. Two down, one to go!! Wooo Hooo!!!! lol

We turned our air on already this year. It gets hot in the afternoon, especially when you live in an upstairs apartment. I try to keep it around 80 ish to help with the bill though. It is high enough without the air running!
We had a huge blessing this past Sunday. Hubby is teaching a Sunday School for a man that went on vacation. He taught this past Sunday and then will teach tomorrow. Then the next two weeks after that, he will be teaching for someone else's SS class. I was supposed to teach for the younger children, but the teacher ended up having her surgery postponed so I didn't have to teach. I was very well prepared and excited to do it but it didn't happen. When we got there I saw the teacher and we talked about when I could fill in and such, then the wife of the teacher my dh is filling in for in a few weeks asked if I could help with her jr. church class when she is gone. So we are starting to get involved more. I just really felt part of the group. That was a blessing but there is more...

While I was talking to these ladies, my hubby went to his room  and on the podium was an envelope that said "Bergman Family". He opened it and was SHOCKED! He came up to me after I had finished talking and said, "There is an envelope on the podium and it has bills in it I haven't seen before." I went to the podium and looked in and there were $100 bills in the envelope. Wow!! I grabbed the envelope and took it to a private room and counted it. There were 7 $100 bills!!! I just cried. We have been struggling these last few months and this will get it about even so we aren't behind. I just couldn't believe it. There was no name on the envelope as to who it was from. I asked the preacher if he knew about it and all he knew was it was on his desk with our name on it. I told him if he did know to please thank them, but I don't know if he does. He may know though. We were able to pay off two bills with it and we are okay right now. Praise God!!!

Seth got his permit this week! I am so scared of him driving. He has a lazy eye and I worry about him seeing everything. He has had it as long as he can remember so he is used to it. His other eye is 20/20 and fine so I just have to leave it in the Lord's hands.

I won't wait so long to blog next time!

Happy Mother's Day!!!!

Awesome weekend!!!

Okay, usually I hate the word "awesome" I always have but... it was such a great weekend, I will use it. ;-)

I dropped JB off at work in the morning and then came home and got the boys us. I did some stuff around the house then got ready to run some errands outside the home. Seth needed a haircut (great place near the house does it for $5!) and they needed snacks for the night. Why did they need snacks? Because they went to Planet Wisdom Friday night. Woo Hoo! lol After we picked up the snacks we came home, ate lunch, and made sure they were all packed. I then went into action to get ready for my evening alone with JB. I used our good China, and set the table with candles. It was nice...

By the time we ate, it was dark and romantic... I am getting ahead of myself though....

I fought traffic and dropped the boys off around 4:00 at church. Then fought traffic to pick up JB. He was not done with work so I patiently waited for him. When he was about ready, I ordered our food from Olive Garden (take out). We had a $25 gift card for it so that was nice. We then picked it up and came home. He hopped in the shower while I set up the food and such. He didn't know what I had done yet so when I was all ready, he was really surprised and pleased. Usually when you get take out, you don't get as much as you would if you had eaten there. Or at least that had been our experience, especially with places like Olive Garden. Not the case this time! We had enough food for lunch the next day as well. It was GREAT! The food was soooo goood!!!!! I hope I get a chance to eat that again sometime. I had the four cheese stuffed pansotti with chicken. He had the seafood alfredo. The food was just so yummy! We played some nice quiet music and just talked. We then watched a movie. It was a great night!
Saturday we just were lazy for most of the day. We did get out and about for a bit and then of course we had to pick up the boys.

The boys didn't get much sleep of course, but they had a great time. They really enjoyed it and enjoyed the preaching, skits, and fellowship.

As we were pulling into the parking space after picking them up, Seth got a phone call from a place he applied for. He got an interview set up, which was today (Sunday) at 1:00. We dropped him off at the interview and ran to Target. I was so nervous for him. He sent a text that he was done. Since he didn't say he got the job, I didn't think he did. He was just wanting to surprise us I guess. He got the job! As long as he passes a background check, which won't be a problem, and turn in all his paperwork, he starts March 6. He is so excited!!! We are excited for him. It was a great weekend.

Now I have to get the bedrooms cleaned out as the carpet cleaners are coming for our free carpet cleaning tomorrow morning! What a great way to start the week, huh?

So happy the weekend was so great!

Happy Valentines Day!

The weekend didn't go as planned. When does it though, right? lol First off, we got a "blizzard" (okay, not by Ohio standards but by Texas standards lol)  We got about 9 inches!!! The whole Dallas/Fort Worth area freaked. LOL It was funny. All the schools were closed and that made them cancel the youth rally. Saturday we did do what John wanted on basically. He seemed to have a good birthday. Or at least that is what I hope. It wasn't a bad weekend, just not what I wanted.

Now, this coming weekend will be a nice one. It will be just hubby and I from the time I pick him up at work on Friday until 6:00 on Saturday night! WooHoo!!!!! The boys are going to something called Planet Wisdom with the teens at church. Hubby and I are so looking forward to it. There will only be one thing that will ruin it. I cannot say publicly what it is but if you would pray that all would be taken care of by Friday I would appreciate it.

Joshua sat with the teens this week at church! I was so excited to see him do that. He had been sitting with my hubby and I. He is starting to feel comfortable with them I guess. It is a big step for him and I am grateful! The other teens treat him fine and like one of them.

The following weekend, JM will be moving in with us. What an adjustment that will be. lol We will manage though. I will be rearranging things the week before to make room for him.

It is a busy month. I like that! Keeps me out of trouble! lol

Looking forward to the weekend!

This week should not be anything special really but I am looking forward to the weekend. Friday night the boys will be going to a youth rally with the church so JB and I will have an evening to ourselves. We are going to get dinner from Olive Garden and come home and watch a movie. That will be our Valentine's Day couple celebration. Saturday is JB's birthday. He will be 45!! Man is he getting old. LOL I don't know if or what we will do, but I am planning on making him whatever he wants for dinner and making him a cake too. If he wants to play football on the XBox all day, then he can. I am just looking forward to spending time as a family. We have coupons for a free game of bowling. Maybe we will do that. I don't know. Sunday is Valentine's Day but we will treat it like another Sunday. We will got to church, eat lunch at church as we always do, and then come home after the evening service. We will be home around 3:15 so and turn on the TV for the NASCAR race. It is the big race of the year, the Daytona 500. I won't stop hubby from watching it. I will sit and watch it with him I am sure.

I just want to spoil my hubby a bit. He works hard all week and stresses over finances and such. I just want him to have a great relaxing weekend. I hope I can do that for him.

Happy 2010!!

Praying the Lord blesses each one of you through the year. Praying for a happier year this year and things to turn around for us all.
